Happy Spring Break!
Good Afternoon,
What an incredible week of conferences it was! It was such a pleasure meeting with so many of you and celebrating the hard work and growth of our 4th graders. I am so proud of all the students for their dedication, effort, and progress this year. It's truly inspiring to see how far they've come! As we head into spring break, I want to wish all of you a relaxing and enjoyable time. I hope everyone comes back refreshed and ready for the final stretch of the school year! Thank you for your continued support, and I look forward to all that we’ll accomplish together when we return.
Week in Review:
Leader in Me: This week we learned about how unique life experiences lead us to have different viewpoints. Having empathy means showing respect for different life experiences and viewpoints. As a family, take turns responding to the prompt, “To me, the world would be a better place if more people showed empathy because...”
Writing: This week, 4th grade writers focused on informational writing to prepare for upcoming tests. They analyzed prompts, identified the genre, and created success criteria for effective writing. After planning together, students wrote independently, applying strategies for handling unfamiliar topics by relating them to known subjects like sports or animals. They practiced key skills such as distinguishing facts from opinions, writing clear topic sentences, and ensuring strong introductions and conclusions. The week included feedback sessions and typing practice to build speed and confidence for the test.
Math: This week in math, 4th grade students focused on several key concepts to strengthen their skills for the upcoming tests. They practiced Modeling Multiplication and Division to better understand how to represent these operations visually. They also revisited the Doubling & Halving Strategy, a useful tool for simplifying calculations and solving problems more efficiently. Additionally, students worked on Area Problems, applying their knowledge of multiplication to solve real-world problems involving area. These activities helped reinforce essential math strategies and prepare students for more complex problems.
