Good Afternoon,
As we close out the month of January, I just want to take a moment to reflect on what a great week it’s been. The students continue to grow and shine, and I’m excited to see what the second half of the year brings! It’s truly a privilege to be entrusted with your child’s learning, and I never take for granted the honor of being a part of their journey each day. Looking forward to all the continued growth and learning in the weeks ahead!
Week in Review:
Leader in Me: This week we discussed the leadership skill of giving compliments and how genuinely noticing the contributions of others can be an Emotional Bank Account deposit. As a family, take turns giving each other compliments. Discuss how everyone can notice and give compliments frequently!
Writing: This week, 4th grade writers worked on several key skills. They learned how to use charts to present information clearly and effectively. Students also focused on the process of bringing books to publication. In their study of history, they practiced note-taking and summarizing important historical events, helping them gather and organize information on a topic. Additionally, they worked with timelines to understand the relationships between different events in history.
Math: This week, 4th grade mathematicians explored liquid volume and mass amounts, diving into how to measure both. They also practiced measuring hand spans and arm spans, applying their knowledge of length. Students worked with various data displays to interpret information and review concepts from Unit 4, solidifying their understanding through hands-on activities and discussions.
Reading: This week, 4th grade readers focused on several important skills. They practiced prioritizing key details through notetaking and learned how to synthesize information from multiple sources. Students also explored how specific details in nonfiction texts reveal the author's tone and point of view. They developed strategies for reading primary sources and worked on making their topics come to life, enhancing their engagement with nonfiction texts. These activities helped strengthen their overall reading comprehension and analytical skills for nonfiction reading, using some of their fiction envisionment skills when researching and reading History.
Content: This week we spent a couple days building background knowledge around their reading topic, American Revolution, to help them make their research during reading more efficient and effective. Lastly, we ended the week making an impact in our community by designing and decorating coffee sleeves for Kaukauna Coffee & Tea. They put positive words of affirmation on the sleeves, and will make an impact in every person's life that gets one of those!

Do you like kids?
Are you good with kids?
Then you should become a KASD SUB!!
Talented and skilled substitute teachers and educational assistants are critical to our district. Becoming a sub aids in the instructional and procedural continuity of the district. We are so thankful for our wonderful subs!
To become a Certified Substitute Teacher the state requires a minimum of an associate's degree and the completion of an 8 hour Substitute Training Program - in person or self guided modules from the comfort of your own home - through CESA 6 (see first link below). Once the 8 hours are complete, you will receive the certification of completion. You will then log onto the Department of Public Instruction website (DPI) (see second link below) and apply for the Short Term Substitute License. In the application, DPI will require you to upload your completion certification from the substitute training program.

After the program is complete, here is the link to DPI - where you will need to go after you acquire the certificate from CESA:
