Good Afternoon,
It's been a cold week, with the weather causing a school cancellation, but we’ve made the most of the three days we had! Despite the chilly temperatures, the students stayed focused and did a great job with everything we tackled this week. It’s always impressive to see their resilience and dedication, even when things don’t go exactly as planned. We’re continuing to make progress every day, and I’m really proud of how they’ve been working.
Week in Review:
Leader in Me: This week we learned what it means to be an effective Accountability Partner. We also practiced having Accountability Partner sessions. Discuss these questions together:
- What does it mean to be accountable?
- How will you be a good Accountability Partner?
- How will Accountability Partner sessions help you meet your goals?
Writing: This week, 4th grade writers focused on drafting with purpose by setting goals before beginning their writing. They practiced developing detailed descriptions to make their work more engaging and informative for their readers. Additionally, they explored how science writers use math to help readers visualize concepts more clearly, aiming to enhance their writing with precise and helpful details. It was a week filled with creative strategies to improve writing skills and better communicate ideas!
Math: This week, 4th grade mathematicians focused on improving their measurement skills. They participated in a "Distance Challenge," practiced measuring accurately with the correct units, and explored time measurement. We really dedicated the three days to refining their ability to measure and apply these skills in different contexts.
Reading: This week in reading, readers focused on using text structures to help organize and understand the information they read. They practiced organizing key details and notes to make their reading more effective. The class also spent time on assessments, setting goals, and receiving feedback to guide their progress. Additionally, they explored the special challenges of researching history, preparing them to organize and absorb new knowledge more effectively.
Content: This week we spent a couple days building background knowledge around their reading topic, American Revolution, to help them make their research during reading more efficient and effective. Lastly, we ended the week making an impact in our community by designing and decorating coffee sleeves for Kaukauna Coffee & Tea. They put positive words of affirmation on the sleeves, and will make an impact in every person's life that gets one of those!

Do you want to make a difference in Kaukauna?
Would you like to help your child's school out?
Do you like kids?
Are you good with kids?
Then you should become a KASD SUB!!
Talented and skilled substitute teachers and educational assistants are critical to our district. Becoming a sub aids in the instructional and procedural continuity of the district. We are so thankful for our wonderful subs!
To become a Certified Substitute Teacher the state requires a minimum of an associate's degree and the completion of an 8 hour Substitute Training Program - in person or self guided modules from the comfort of your own home - through CESA 6 (see first link below). Once the 8 hours are complete, you will receive the certification of completion. You will then log onto the Department of Public Instruction website (DPI) (see second link below) and apply for the Short Term Substitute License. In the application, DPI will require you to upload your completion certification from the substitute training program.
Here is the link to the CESA 6 substitute training program:
After the program is complete, here is the link to DPI - where you will need to go after you acquire the certificate from CESA:
To become an Educational Assistant Substitute no degree or certification is necessary! You just have to like kids and be reliable! Please log onto WECAN, and apply today to become an EA sub. Your school and district thank you!
