Happy Thanksgiving!

Good Afternoon,

I just wanted to take a moment to wish you all a very Happy Thanksgiving! I hope you have a chance to relax and enjoy this special time with your loved ones, creating cherished memories. I’m so grateful for all the support you’ve shown throughout the year, and I’m looking forward to an exciting and eventful December with the students. It always brings me great joy to watch them grow and thrive, and I can’t wait to see what the next month brings.

Week in Review:

Leader in Me: This week, we spent time interviewing a classmate and connecting with each other. These activities helped us build stronger relationships and further develop the positive culture in our classroom. By working together, we continue to create a supportive and collaborative environment.

Writing: We started a new writing unit, which is a literary essay writing unit, building on some of their skills from their previous unit, personal and persuasive essay writing. This past week, writers focused on rereading texts with a critical lens, helping them become expert readers and writers who can analyze and understand a text more deeply. They also learned to plan their writing before starting, as they worked on drafting a character trait essay. This exercise provided a baseline for their skills in literary essay writing.

Math: This past week, mathematicians worked on identifying and naming fractions to test their knowledge and find equivalent fractions. They also explored fractions using geoboards, which helped them check their understanding of the concepts and apply their fraction knowledge in a hands-on way.

Reading: We started a new reading unit, which is a fiction unit focusing on details and synthesis. This past week, readers focused on reflecting on their reading habits as fiction readers. They worked on identifying what they do well and areas where they can improve. By paying attention to aspects of reading they might not always focus on, they learned how to grow in those areas and become more well-rounded readers.

Content: This past week, we explored the history of Thanksgiving, along with engaging in various related activities. Next week, we will return to our current science unit, where students will continue investigating the structures and functions of the human body.

Do you want to make a difference in Kaukauna?
Would you like to help your child's school out?
Do you like kids?
Are you good with kids?

Then you should become a KASD SUB!!

Talented and skilled substitute teachers and educational assistants are critical to our district. Becoming a sub aids in the instructional and procedural continuity of the district. We are so thankful for our wonderful subs!

To become a Certified Substitute Teacher the state requires a minimum of an associate's degree and the completion of an 8 hour Substitute Training Program - in person or self guided modules from the comfort of your own home - through CESA 6 (see first link below). Once the 8 hours are complete, you will receive the certification of completion. You will then log onto the Department of Public Instruction website (DPI) (see second link below) and apply for the Short Term Substitute License. In the application, DPI will require you to upload your completion certification from the substitute training program.

After the program is complete, here is the link to DPI - where you will need to go after you acquire the certificate from CESA:

To become an Educational Assistant Substitute no degree or certification is necessary! You just have to like kids and be reliable! Please log onto WECAN, and apply today to become an EA sub. Your school and district thank you!

Both positions - Certified Subs and EA Subs - are posted on WECAN.  Here's the link:https://wecan.waspa.org/    Please apply when you're ready and I will reach out to you once your application comes through.
