Halftime of November

Good Afternoon,

What a week it was as all of NDLC put on an amazing concert for our Veteran's. It was a special evening where an entire school community was able to come together, and honor and celebrate people in our lives who are so special. The energy in the school was incredible, and only happens when you have such a great connection between school and families. That's just one of the many reasons that I believe makes NDLC great. Looking forward to that same energy as families get to come in next week, and see their leaders present during conferences!

Week in Review:

Leader in Me: We focused on staying true to our personal mission statement and making choices that align with who we want to be. Work together to list all of the celebrations and successes members of your family have achieved so far this year. Plan a celebration for all to enjoy. Some examples include a walk in the neighborhood/local park, watching a favorite show/movie, cooking a new recipe.

Writing: Writers focused on strengthening their essays by using resources and linking evidence to their claims. They practiced analytic thinking to ensure their writing flowed smoothly and was convincing. During revisions, they set specific goals to track their growth and improve their drafts. Writers also worked on adding sophisticated details to their essays, learning expert techniques to elevate their writing. Finally, they explored the magical power of lists, practicing how to punctuate list sentences properly to make their essays more organized and clear.

Math: Mathematicians focused on reviewing everything they learned in Unit 2, giving them a chance to practice key concepts. They took the Unit 2 Post Assessment to showcase their understanding and demonstrate what they’ve mastered. Afterward, they completed assessment corrections, analyzing their mistakes to make growth and deepen their understanding. Finally, mathematicians completed the Pre-Assessment for the next unit to reflect on what they know and identify areas to improve. It was a week of reflection, growth, and preparation for new learning!

Reading: Readers focused on key skills to enhance their learning. They practiced teaching one another to monitor their understanding, compared new topics with what they already knew, and explored patterns to deepen their knowledge. Readers also sparked new inquiries by investigating fresh topics. Finally, they learned that reading isn't just about what the book says—it’s about pursuing their own interests and questions. It was a week of active discovery and growth!

Content: In our new science unit, students learned how muscles, bones, and tendons work together to make us move. In the Robot Finger activity, they built a finger model to see how pulling a string (tendon) made it bend—just like muscles pull on tendons to move bones. Students explored how bones give structure, muscles create movement, and tendons connect them all. It was a fun way to see how our bodies work!

Do you like kids?
Are you good with kids?

Talented and skilled substitute teachers and educational assistants are critical to our district. Becoming a sub aids in the instructional and procedural continuity of the district. We are so thankful for our wonderful subs!

To become a Certified Substitute Teacher the state requires a minimum of an associate's degree and the completion of an 8 hour Substitute Training Program - in person or self guided modules from the comfort of your own home - through CESA 6 (see first link below). Once the 8 hours are complete, you will receive the certification of completion. After the program is complete, here is the link to DPI - where you will need to go after you acquire the certificate from CESA:

To become an Educational Assistant Substitute no degree or certification is necessary! You just have to like kids and be reliable! Please log onto WECAN, and apply today to become an EA sub. Your school and district thank you!

Both positions - Certified Subs and EA Subs - are posted on WECAN.  Here's the link:https://wecan.waspa.org/    Please apply when you're ready and I will reach out to you once your application comes through.
