Fall Break!

Image
Good Afternoon, Hope everyone is able to take time to enjoy the fall break and sharpen the saw. The students have been working hard daily, and I am proud of the growth of every single one of them to start the school year. It's important to reflect on the all the hard work they have put in, and pause to appreciate the growth they have made both academically and socially so far this school year. Everyday we talk about making the most out of the day, working to our potential and not wasting time; we only get 86,400 seconds each day so making every second count because we all agreed if we had that in money each day we wouldn't waste any of it! Week in Review: Leader in Me:   Our class has been talking about the impact of proactive and reactive responses to situations. Brainstorm a list of proactive phrases that can be used by everyone! Writing:  Writers came up with a thesis they wanted to relate to their idea writing from the previous week to use for their upcoming personal essay...

Good Afternoon, What a fun filled week of learning here in 4th Grade at NDLC. The students are doing such an amazing job, and I can say so many positives about every single one of them. This week we talked about the importance of reaching for your full potential daily, and making every day count; I think this message resonated with many as we discussed what they can accomplish if they if they won't settle for anything less than their best. I am looking forward to continue to build on all they have have accomplished so far as we head into a short week next week! Writing: Writers launched their new unit, writing essays and arguments. They began by choosing issues of personal importance, and then had structured brainstorming to write long on their issues. They wrote entries that are lo...

Good Afternoon, The writing celebration yesterday went amazing, and I am so appreciative of all the people we had come into celebrate the writers. I will speak on behalf of all of them if they haven't already, and say thank you! It's such an important piece to what make us who we are here at NDLC is our connections between school and home, and that was on full display yesterday. It was another busy week of learning and growing in fourth grade, and as the days go by the class is settling into expectations and reaching for their full potential every single day. Week in Review: Leader in Me:  We learned to identify the intensity of our emotions and of those around us. As a family, take turns sharing examples of when you have felt intense emotions and how you chose or could have chosen a helpful response. Writing: Writers prepared all week to make their writing as special as it could be for their writing celebration. It was a fun week seeing themselves light up when describing them...

Good Afternoon, As we turn the calendar on our first month of school, I want to express my gratitude to all of the families. 4th grade is a big year for so many reasons, but having the support of families as we partner in your child's learning experience I do not take for granted. I am proud of the work the 4th graders have accomplished as we laid the groundwork for our year in September, but I am excited to see where we can go as we continue this learning journey together. Their are so many moments of celebration and growth, and I look forward to continuing to make those as we head into a brand new month of learning and growth both academically and socially. Week in Review: Leader in Me:  This week, we discussed student-led learning strategies that help students take charge of their own learning experience, including learning targets and student-designed assessments. With your learner, discuss these questions for deeper connections: How can student-led learning strategies help wit...
